Individual Project: Fight Club Infographic
An infographic on David Fincher’s 1999 film Fight Club

Individual Project: A Change of Plan
My original idea was a blog that centred around the subject ”Families that secretly own the world” which was inspired by a line from the television show ”Bones”.
But after an initial research it was hard to narrow down on which families to concentrate on and which categories. The different categories could have been split multiple ways such as families who deal in the fuel industry, drugs, entertainment, news corporation and so much more. The structure of it all was too dense and the information was very hard to find.
And so I made the decision to drop this idea as I had so little resources and too little time to compile it all in blog form. This is an idea that would take months to materialise.
However, as I researched into infographics my interests changed. So I decided that I would like my project to be in an infographic format rather than a blog as I would like to experiment with this format. I am familiar with managing a blog and I want to challenge myself and develop infographic skills.
Competitors
Recipe Search is an Android app similar to my idea.
In their video they typed in one ingredient (chicken) and multiple recipes come up. If you don’t have some ingredients their is an add-on where you can email your wife, flatmate, boyfriend etc to pick it up. Or you could add it to a shopping list.
My app idea focused more on typing or clicking an image of things left in your pantry or fridge rather than waiting until you have that one extra ingredient.
Another point of my app was to not spend any more money on groceries and just work with what you have
Of course this could be the downfall of the app where if you only have an orange and butter available there will be limited amount of recipes. But if you only have an orange and butter then your really have to go food shopping.
I found that Recipe Search had some interesting add-ons where if you didn’t know how to use a certain cooking technique they would give you tips.
Magazine Research
It was difficult to find a suitable magazine to attach this app to.
I looked at Masterchef, Easy Cook, Good Food (BBC) and then I stumbled upon Food Network UK which had a wide and varied recipe database. They covered lots of recipes with different time durations.
The website layout was simple and easy to navigate which is what I wanted the design of the app to mirror. But their blog is very cluttered compared to their website. There are too few categories with the Other category holding the bulk of all their posts. Then again the blog’s purpose could only be to look at the inside workings of the magazine.
The app will have a simple graphic design, straight to point instructions and a few images and sound bites.
Lonely Planet magazine always popped out to me. This showed me that there was another audience to tap into. The frequent world trekker. This could be someone who want to try out new recipes but don’t want to bust a hole in their bank accounts.
App Idea
My idea is a food app for those who have an anorexic fridge.
The basics of it is that you type in what ingredients are stewing in your fridge that you want to get rid of/only have left and the app will bring up different recipes.
This app could be used to promote a food magazine who are trying to attract a younger audience or a magazine aimed at people who spend more money on apps and technology sustenance than actual food.
Everyone is guilty of buying material things instead of the groceries every now and again. It can get really boring eating a liner diet so this app appeals to people who want to deviate from eating mash potatoes every night.
